NOPD badge
A pinning ceremony followed. This special part of the program afforded family members the opportunity to participate as they solemnly pinned pinned the recruits' badges on their uniforms.

The graduation ceremony, which filled the Human Development Center auditorium with NOPD, city, community and civic leaders and families, revealed even more connections. Angela Hill, a former member of the LSU Health Foundation Board of Directors, served as master of cermonies, and Rod West, a former chair of the LSU Board of Supervisors, delivered the key note address.

Following remarks from the Mayor and taking their Oath of Office in unison, Chief Harrison conferred diplomas on each of the 26 new police officers. A few received special honors, and the Class Speaker added his hopes to those of his Class going forward. Then it was time to celebrate.

Chancellor Larry Hollier, MD, and LSU Health Foundation New Orleans treated the group to a reception. The graduates and their families thoroughly enjoyed the food, beverages and conviviality. A congratulatory cake contributed by the Al Copeland Foundation was a big hit.

A number of LSU Health New Orleans medical students volunteered to help with the events. Jonathan Chawla and Emily Tompkins helped direct guests and set up the reception. Casie James and Gabriel Fuselier organized the food stations and served cake at the reception.

It was a very special day, for both NOPD and LSU Health New Orleans. The Health Sciences Center was able to show its support for those who protect and serve, and the NOPD was able to experience how much their community cares.
