At a time when it is so important for law enforcement officers to know their many sacrifices and willingness to run toward danger are deeply appreciated, LSU Health New Orleans was honored to host the Commencement Exercises of Recruit Class #175 and then throw them a party. Our faculty, staff and students know just how meaningful Commencement is for both the graduates and their loved ones, and LSU Health New Orleans was delighted to contribute to their special day.
NOPD Police Superintendent Michael Harrison started things off by addressing the assembled recruits. He thanked them for stepping up to anwer the call to serve and welcomed them to the NOPD family.
The graduation ceremony, which filled the Human Development Center auditorium with NOPD, city, community and civic leaders and families, revealed even more connections. Angela Hill, a former member of the LSU Health Foundation Board of Directors, served as master of cermonies, and Rod West, a former chair of the LSU Board of Supervisors, delivered the key note address.
Chancellor Larry Hollier, MD, and LSU Health Foundation New Orleans treated the group to a reception. The graduates and their families thoroughly enjoyed the food, beverages and conviviality. A congratulatory cake contributed by the Al Copeland Foundation was a big hit.
It was a very special day, for both NOPD and LSU Health New Orleans. The Health Sciences Center was able to show its support for those who protect and serve, and the NOPD was able to experience how much their community cares.
